"Hear that? We're using CODE Names!!!!"

I will fully and readily admit that I don't know much about the Secret Service...though I think that's the point, isn't it?  Is it just me, or does this not make any sense?  Wouldn't they want to keep this information on the down low?

There was a time when the Secret Service used what basically amounted to the cheap walkie-talkies that you can get into Wal-Mart, and anyone else with the right reciever could listen in. These code names were put in place so that those people could listen but wouldn't understand what was happening. Today their radio transmissions are all encrypted, and so it doesn't matter if people know the code names or not. The only reason they still do it is for traditions sake, kind of like the bridesmaids/groomsmen thing.
